# How Tenor works

> Tenor is the agentic layer over Operata CX observability data — a CX AI agent that works for people and for other AI agents.

Tenor is the action layer. It's a CX AI agent that works for people and for other AI agents, delivered where teams already are — Slack, Teams, and the Operata Platform.

## How it works

Tenor splits by audience.

| Audience     | What Tenor does                                                                                                 |
| ------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| IT teams     | Autonomous root cause analysis and resolution, delivered as an agent in Slack and Teams.                        |
| Ops teams    | Plain-language analysis and charting across platforms.                                                          |
| Human agents | Readiness testing, real-time issue prevention, problem resolution, and technical guidance at the agent desktop. |

Tenor reaches you two ways: in the Operata console, and through your own AI assistant or agents. The [Operata MCP Server](/docs/guides-mcp-intro) exposes Tenor and its source data — contacts, insights, analytics, and the knowledge base — to AI clients over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), so an agent queries your live CX data with the same model the dashboards and the API use.
